Supportive not corrective

Manual therapy is a sensitive subject. Looking at the evidence it doesn’t appear to be able to break down scar tissue, re-align joints/tissues, align organs, release fascia, alter tissues, heal tissues in any special way. In fact, I would go as far as to say that going for a 30-minute walk may be more beneficial.

Manual therapy does stimulate sensory receptors, inducing an inhibition affect (placebo), altering perception of tissue stiffness, pain. But this neurological response to MT is short lived, temporary. A soon as you move, those compensatory mechanisms (pain, stiffness) return.

It also influences the person to believe they need another person’s hands to fix them. Soon enough you’re in an endless loop of coming to get your symptoms modulated with no permanent change or goal.
